BACKUS, Charlotte L.
Charlotte L. Backus, age 79, of Toledo, passed away Friday, November 17, 2006, in St. Anne Mercy Hospital. She was born December 22, 1926, in Toledo to Charles Sr. and Eva Houghtby. Charlotte was assistant secretary and treasurer for the former Gerlinger Equipment Company for 41 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority; Betta Nu Chapter, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Toledo Symphony League, Inverness Club and The Toledo Club. Charlotte was also a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. The widow of Foster E. Backus, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Charles T. Houghtby, Jr. Charlotte is survived by step son, William F. (Kay) Backus; step grandchildren, Jason (Laura) and Jeffrey (Regan) Backus; great-granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Backus; cousins, Carole Smith and Janice Marks; nephews, Charles (Cheryl) Houghtby III, and Donald (Lisa) Houghtby; niece, Regena (William) Cunningham; and a host of great and great great nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., (west of Corey) on Monday after 11 a.m. where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
